Lt Gov Candidate Edwards fires at Duffy (who?)

October 1, 2010

UPDATES ON DUFFY, PERHAPS NOT THE BEST CHOICE FOR CUOMO

“Unproven allegations, twenty year old DUI’s and a tax debt that’s a tiny fraction of Mayor Robert Duffy’s own overtime padding and double-dipping won’t stir the voters. Come out of the closet and on to the issues in debate, Mr. Mayor, or pay the price on November 2nd.”

EDWARDS: WILL DUFFY DEBATE OR DODGE LIKE CUOMO?

Lt. Gov. candidate asks “is Duffy as afraid to debate the issues as Andrew Cuomo?”

Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edwards, the Republican and Conservative Party candidate for Lieutenant Governor of New York, today challenged his opponent, Rochester Mayor Robert Duffy, to a debate on the issues. He also derided Andrew Cuomo for his thorny rose garden strategy and ducking debates.

“Why is Cuomo afraid to openly debate the issues with Carl Paladino? It is time for Robert Duffy to come out and address the voters of New York,” Edwards said “Or like his running-mate Andrew Cuomo will Duffy duck the debates New York taxpayers deserve?”

“Robert Duffy is a double-dipping politician and that fits Andrew Cuomo perfectly – they are two rotten peas in a pod,” Edwards said. ” Voters have been asking me about my position on Duffy keeping a $70,000 New York State pension while simultaneously receiving his Mayoral salary of $127,694. At a total of over $197,000, Duffy’s compensation is more than the salaries of the governor and chief judge of New York – all at tremendous cost to beleaguered taxpayers.

“It’s time for Mayor Duffy to come out and debate,” Edwards said. “The people deserve a comparison of the candidates on the issues, and since Cuomo is ducking debates, lying about his efforts to dodge and hiding in a thorny rose garden from the taxpayers, maybe his Lieutenant will debate.”

“Our campaign hasn’t heard a word from the Cuomo camp since they bluffed their interest in debates. I am ready, willing and able to debate my opponent. Duffy needs to stand up like a man and accept debate dates immediately. We have 34 days left and the voters deserve better than Cuomo’s approach of hiding.”

“They are both afraid of addressing issues the voters want answers to: like where do they stand on Obamacare, which will cost the working man and woman in New York far more in tax dollars and give them no more medical care? Where do they stand on double dipping and retirement padding, which costs the taxpayers millions? And why do they insist on raising taxes and spending instead of giving the taxpayers the relief they deserve – tax and spending cuts to create jobs and start our state back on the road to recovery?”
